Where I’ve Been This August: Learning to Be Present in the Season I’m In
August has looked a little different around Remnant Oil Apothecary.
If you’ve noticed that I haven’t been posting as much, creating as much content, or talking about the Apothecary quite as loudly this month, you’re right.
I pulled back.
Not because I stopped caring about what I’m building. Not because the vision changed. And not because I’m giving up.
Life simply needed more of me somewhere else.
This month has been full.
There has been ministry, preparation for conference, personal things that needed my attention, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, I have been preparing to watch my daughter get married.
On Sunday, my daughter becomes a wife.
Even writing that feels surreal.
There are seasons when building means pushing, producing, creating, launching, and showing up consistently.
And then there are seasons when building looks like knowing what deserves your hands right now.
August has been one of those seasons for me.
Some Things Only Happen Once
There will be more batches to make.
There will be more soap to cure, more jars to fill, more ideas to create, more posts to write, more markets to attend, and more opportunities for Remnant Oil Apothecary to grow.
But I only get this season with my daughter once.
I only get these final days before her wedding once.
I only get to stand in this particular moment of our story once.
And I didn’t want to be so busy trying to keep up with a business calendar that I missed something sacred happening right in front of me.
That realization has settled deeply into me this month.
Sometimes stewardship means doing more.
Sometimes stewardship means knowing when not to.
The Apothecary Is Still Here
I think there can be pressure when you own a small business to constantly prove that it is alive.
Post something.
Sell something.
Launch something.
Make something.
Stay visible.
Keep the algorithm happy.
Keep momentum going.
But behind every small business is an actual person with an actual life.
And this month, my life needed room.
Remnant Oil Apothecary has always been deeply connected to how I live and what I value. I have never wanted to build something that looked beautiful online while my real life was starving for my attention.
So I gave myself permission to step back.
The orders that came in were cared for.
The Apothecary was still here.
But I stopped demanding that every quiet space become content.
I stopped feeling like every moment needed to become productivity.
And I allowed August to be August.
A Month of Ministry, Family, and Transition
This month has carried ministry responsibilities and conference, which required a different kind of pouring out.
It has carried personal things that needed to be tended quietly.
And then there has been the wedding.
The lists.
The preparation.
The conversations.
The emotions.
The realization that the little girl I have spent so many years loving, raising, protecting, praying for, and walking beside is stepping into a completely new chapter of her life.
And somehow, I’m stepping into one too.
There is joy in that.
There is gratitude.
There is excitement.
And if I’m being truthful, there is also that strange ache that comes when something beautiful changes.
Not because the change is wrong.
Because it matters.
I’m Learning That Pausing Is Part of Building
I used to think momentum meant never stopping.
I’m learning differently.
Healthy things have rhythms.
There are seasons of planting.
Seasons of producing.
Seasons of pruning.
Seasons of gathering.
And seasons when you simply stand still long enough to recognize what God is doing around you.
This month, I didn’t need to force Remnant Oil Apothecary forward.
I needed to be present.
Present in ministry.
Present with people I love.
Present with my daughter.
Present with myself.
Present with God.
And strangely enough, I don’t believe the business loses anything because of that.
I think it becomes more honest.
Because this business was never meant to consume my life.
It was meant to grow from a life that is being lived.
So, Where Have I Been?
I’ve been here.
Just quieter.
I’ve been tending things you won’t necessarily see on Instagram.
I’ve been preparing for ministry.
I’ve been handling personal things.
I’ve been watching one season of motherhood slowly close and another begin.
I’ve been getting ready to walk my daughter toward one of the biggest moments of her life.
And I’ve been reminding myself that not everything meaningful needs to be monetized, photographed, posted, or turned into momentum.
Some things are simply meant to be lived.
After the wedding, I know the rhythm will begin shifting again.
There are ideas waiting for Remnant Oil Apothecary.
There are things I want to make.
There are things I want to share.
There is still vision here.
But before I rush into what comes next, I want to finish this season well.
Sunday, I’ll watch my daughter get married.
And for now?
That is where my heart is.
Thank you for being here through the loud seasons and the quiet ones.
The Apothecary is still here.
So am I.
And I have a feeling there is something beautiful waiting on the other side of August.
